DTV and the Media Revolution

Digital media technology is sweeping through the AV industry, just as it has through the broadcast, cinema and consumer electronics industries. The days of multiple analog wires carrying audio, video, and control signals are history, replaced by single wire, fiber optic bundle and wireless distribution of data packets.

This transition to digital makes video and audio signal types far less important than the bandwidth needed to transport them from source to destination. Browser-equipped TVs, mobile digital TV, netbooks with Web-enabled software, “time shifting” and “place shifting” are all components of the digital media revolution. Learn how these and other developments are changing the future of the professional AV marketplace right before our eyes.

Hear InfoComm International’s 2008 Educator of the Year Pete Putman, CTS, addresses these issues at our InfoComm Academy@Baltimore RU Event . For just $25, attendees can earn 6 RUs in one day while learning about the latest issues from some of the best minds in the AV industry. Register today!

Atlas Sound Donates Loudspeakers to InfoComm Academy

Atlas Sound recently donated 24 FAP24T loudspeakers to provide a more real-world hands-on training experience for students enrolled in InfoComm Academy® installation and design classes. The loudspeakers will allow students to simulate the prediction and measurement of impedance in complex distributed audio systems.

“InfoComm applauds the generosity of Atlas Sound,” said Randal A. Lemke, Ph.D., Executive Director, InfoComm International. “Thanks to their donation, thousands of InfoComm Academy students will benefit from an enhanced education experience.”

Proper design and installation of distributed loudspeakers is expected to take on increasing importance as the pending InfoComm Audio Coverage Uniformity in Enclosed Spaces Performance Standard moves forward into practice. The new standard requires a high degree of precision in selecting the proper location and power for each speaker. The Atlas loudspeakers feature easily selectable transformer tap settings which allow students to hone their skills more efficiently across many different distributed audio scenarios.
