More Architects Recognize and Specify Certified Technology Specialists
Audiovisual professionals holding the Certified Technology Specialist (CTS®) credential are a key asset to the design and integration phases within the commercial building process, and architects are taking note. A recent survey conducted by InfoComm International® found that overall awareness of the CTS program rose to 80 percent by the end of 2009, compared to just 53 percent in 2007.
In 2007, InfoComm International launched an education campaign in hopes of raising awareness of the CTS credential among the architect and building owner communities. Two key objectives of the campaign are to heighten the awareness of the CTS professional and drive engagement with the CTS professional earlier in the design-phase process. There was a 10 percent increase in architects involving an AV consultant during the design development phase of a project, marking a positive move for the industry. More
Construction Spending Up, Manufacturing Employment on the Rise
According to the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), the infrastructure stimulus finally may be starting to make an impact. Despite declines in residential and business activity, overall construction edged up by 0.2 percent in March. The reason: a 2.3 percent surge in public construction, led by spending on education structures and highway construction. The increase in public construction was the first increase since last July and the fastest monthly increase in more than a year. In addition, 10 of the 12 major private sectors of the economy added employment in April, up from nine in March and six in February, indicating that employers are increasingly becoming confident enough to start hiring workers. After four consecutive months of growth, manufacturing employment increased by 44,000 to a level of 11.6 million in April, bringing the 2010 gains so far to 101,000, the biggest four-month gain in a dozen years. The manufacturing employment gain was diffuse, with 19 of the 21 major industries adding jobs. Source: NAM Monday Economic Report.
